Welcome to the first home of drinking and critical thinking!
Next Talk on 4 Feb: “How THEY stop you finding out the TRUTH” by Meirion Jones

London Skeptics in the Pub is an award winning lecture series. We cover science, technology, history, philosophy and related current affairs.
After a long break, we restarted our events in December 2025 at KC Continental Stores (26 Caledonian Road, Kings Cross, N1 9DT). We meet (usually) on the first Wednesday of the month to hear a speaker and join in a Q&A.
We’ll be asking for a £4 from everyone to help pay for our equipment, hire costs and speakers expenses. We don’t take any money for ourselves. Some special events WILL be ticketed and the link will be included in the event details. When in doubt, just turn up!
London Skeptics in the Pub is an inclusive and welcoming place for everyone. We won’t tolerate any kind of prejudice or any behaviour that makes people uncomfortable, either at our events or on our social media. There may be times when we miss something so we encourage anyone to tell us if there is a problem; we promise to listen to you and we will do our utmost to deal with it. Skeptics in the Pub is for everyone and we hope that you will all help us to make it a friendly community.

How THEY stop you finding out the TRUTH
Meirion Jones
Investigative journalist
4 February 2026 Wednesday 19:30
KC Continental Stores
26 Caledonian Road, Kings Cross, N1 9DT
Twenty-one years ago the Freedom of Information Act came into effect. It was going to be a new dawn of open government. Hoorah! Meirion’s first request was information on whether the UK had helped Israel get nuclear weapons and back came three feet of Top Secret documents revealing the truth.
For a brief window Whitehall’s deepest secrets were on view and then the shutters came crashing back down. Find out how successive administrations have run a Clearing House – AKA Blocking House – concealing national and local government corruption and wrongdoing ever since.

Meirion is best known for investigations into Bogus Bomb Detectors, Jimmy Savile, Vulture Funds and the Fake Sheikh. His stories have led to changes in the law and bad people going to jail.
Jeremy Paxman accused Meirion of exhibiting that “obsessional, slightly nutty commitment that marks out all successful investigative reporters”.

The Devil’s Advocate: Demons and the Law
Naomi Ryan
Criminal Barrister
1 April 2026 Wednesday 19:30
KC Continental Stores
26 Caledonian Road, Kings Cross, N1 9DT
The Devil is a figure of fascination. Over the centuries, he has been depicted as a tempting snake, a malicious goat, a tragic fallen angel, a terrifying, cloven footed beast and even a squeaky voiced, saucy South Park character. He has captured the attention of writers, poets, folklorists, historians, philosophers and most obviously, the Catholic Church. But few people know the role that he has played in shaping the law. Satan has played central roles in a whole array of cases. If the allegations are to be believed, Lucifer and his impish minions have led women to commit acts of witchcraft, often involving kissing various orifices. They have possessed people’s minds and sent messages through rock music, tricking them into committing horrible crimes. A demon has even taken physical form to torment and abuse a BBC journalist.
Join barrister and supernatural-enthusiast Naomi Ryan for a look at some truly Luciferian law. Learn about murder cases involving demonic possession and satanic cases of slander. Listen to recordings of demons that were actually played to judges and hear about the lascivious acts of loyalty witches had to show to their Satanic master. But most importantly of all, learn how judges, barristers and juries have engaged with these baffling claims to ensure that in most cases, justice was done to all..
Naomi Ryan is a criminal barrister and lover of all things macabre. After qualifying with an first class undergraduate degree from UCL and a Masters in Law from St Catherine’s College, Oxford, she taught criminal law to undergraduates at St Hilda’s College Oxford and University College London before embarking on her career as a criminal barrister. She both prosecuted and defended before moving to the Civil Service, where she worked for an array of prestigious departments, including the Attorney General’s Office, the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Court of Appeal. She has since moved back to the self-employed bar, where she both prosecutes and defends.
When she isn’t advising legal luminaries, she delivers spirited(!) talks on macabre events in legal history. She is a regular feature at London’s Month of the Dead festival, and can often be found addressing museums and other legal and supernatural organisations on the spooky and scintillating topic of ghost law. Her favourite subjects include ghosts as witnesses, the prosecution of fraudulent mediums and the High Court’s treatment of demon mongooses called Gef.
