Despite being as old as matter itself, antimatter remains a mystical subject for many and is a hot topic in science fiction. In this talk, we will separate fact from fiction and look at the science and technology of antimatter. Where does it come from? How is it made? How different is it from normal matter? What can it be used for? We will also talk about the cool antimatter research currently underway at CERN that hopes to answer some of the deepest questions about nature itself.

Sameed is a quantum physicist working at CERN where he studies antimatter particles as part of the ALPHA experiment. Originally from Islamabad, he graduated with a bachelor in physics and mathematics from Cornell University (2011), a master in materials science and engineering from KAUST (2012), and a PhD in physics from Swansea University (2017). As an advocate for STEM education, Sameed strives to make science and mathematics accessible and enjoyable for students as well as the general public. With the help of local experts and sponsors, he is currently involved in a number of initiatives that are tailor-made to improve STEM education for students from underprivileged and underrepresented backgrounds. Sameed features widely on the international speaker circuit and has delivered guest lectures on physics and mathematics in several countries including France, Germany, Pakistan, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
