DESCRIPTION:As skeptics and critical thinkers\, free speech is a value we m
 ust strive to uphold\, and to defend. Yet\, the free speech argument has o
 ften been weaponised by opponents of skepticism\, in order to promote pseu
 doscientific ideas – from creationism in classrooms\, to intimidatory an
 ti-abortion protests\, to climate change denial. Most recently\, prominent
  “race realists” have appealed to the concept of academic freedom in o
 rder to garner support for unscientific eugenicist arguments. Using real l
 ife cases from across the last decade\, Michael Marshall will show how ske
 ptics have seen our commitment to free speech hijacked and weaponised by t
 he very pseudoscientists we seek to counter.\n\nMichael Marshall is the Ed
 itor of The Skeptic magazine\, Director of the Good Thinking Society\, and
  President of the Merseyside Skeptics Society. He regularly presents inves
 tigative reporting on the Skeptics with a K podcast (http://www.merseyside
 skeptics.org.uk/category/podcast/skeptics-with-a-k/) and breaks down the p
 seudoscience and conspiracy theories in popular media for The Know Rogan E
